Dangerous Wind Chills Continue

Dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills will continue to impact the area through at least Sunday.
All of our viewing area remains under a wind chill warning for wind chills nearing -55. Areas along the Hi-Line and in North-Eastern Montana could even approach -60.
Air this cold can cause frost bite in as little as 5 minutes. Your best bet is to stay inside and if you must go out, limit any exposure to the elements. Be sure to bundle up and cover all skin. The more layers the better protection you have from the cold.

February will begin, much like January ended, warm and breezy. Today we ve had wind gusts approaching 30 mph across the area which has helped keep temperatures above average for many.
The work week will start off with highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s in several locations, which is well above average for this time of year. No worries though for those who miss Winter. This work week will end with highs in the teens and lows below zero. Areas along the Hi-Line and in North-Eastern Montana may see lows approaching the teens below zero by Friday night. How cold it gets will depend on if we get a layer of snowfall on the ground and whether or not we have clear skies (which will allow for any warmth to escape the surface).

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) at the beginning of the year announced support for farmers who were affected by extreme weather in 2018 and 2019.
The funding comes through USDAâs Quality Loss Adjustment Program (QLA), which provides $1.5 billion for farmers facing crop losses due to extreme weather. It was created to supplement relief provided to farmers through the Wildfire, Hurricane, and Indemnity Program Plus (WHIP+).
Since September 2019, U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) has been working to get relief for producers in Eastern Montana facing quality losses due to excessive rain and flooding in the region during harvest. âThe fact is, Northeastern Montana got hammered by untimely moisture during harvest,â said Tester. âEverybody in agriculture knows we need rain all the time, but not during Harvest. That s the worst time to get.â
