COVID cases at Massachusetts schools grow to 1,045 just days ahead of full in-person learning for grades K-5

Just days away from full-time in-person learning for K-5 students in Massachusetts, schools have reported 1,045 total new COVID-19 cases to education officials.
Those cases, detected from March 25 to 31, are among 801 students and 244 staff members, according to data from the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
This shows an increase from last week when DESE reported 910 new cases of the virus, split between 682 students and 228 staff members. The week prior, there were 669 total new cases.
Of the positives in this week’s report, 791 student cases and 228 staff cases were at local school districts, 6 student cases and 10 staff cases were at education collaboratives, and 4 student cases and 6 staff cases were at approved special education schools, per DESE data.

Massachusetts schools had 476 student and staff COVID cases in past week as educators get green light for vaccines

A total of 476 COVID-19 cases, among 343 students and 133 staff members, have been reported by Massachusetts schools to education officials in the past week.
Those cases, identified from Feb. 25 to March 3, include 335 student cases and 127 staff cases at local school districts, five student cases and five staff cases at education collaboratives, and three student cases and one staff case at approved special education schools, according to a weekly report from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The coronavirus case report from DESE comes out each Thursday and includes cases from students or staff members who tested positive within seven days of being inside a school building.
