Paige Thompson, Hall County elections coordinator, said that 21,438 ballots had been cast at the four polling locations as of Wednesday, Dec. 23. In comparison, some 25,092 ballots were cast between Oct. 12 and Oct. 20, the first seven days of early voting in the general election, Hall County spokeswoman Katie Crumley said. ....
New trolleys coming to Gainesville The City of Gainesville recently announced a new trolley system coming to the city. The trolleys will only be used for special events at first; however, beginning in the spring they will operate for regular lunch routes downtown. Gainesville Community Services Director Phillippa Lewis Moss said that city officials are looking to make the trolleys free and hope that the new transportation will encourage people to visit downtown lunch eateries. New Browns Bridge set to open for travel on Friday A replacement bridge for the old Browns Bridge on Georgia 369 over Lake Lanier will open to traffic Friday, Dec. 18 after nearly three years of construction. ....
Hall County State Court Judge John G. Breakfield issued a statement Friday afternoon. Due to concerns over increasing levels of COVID-19 in Hall County, the Hall County State Court Jury Trials (Division D-Breakfield) scheduled for January 25, 2021 at the North Hall Community Center are continued until April 12, 2021, the statement said. A decision on the February 1, 2021 trial week will be made after the holidays. The news of the change came on the same day of yet another record-breaking day for COVID-19 hospitalizations at Northeast Georgia Health System facilities. A total of 261 patients were being treated Friday for the virus, an increase of 40 from Friday. All ICU beds were occupied at the Gainesville campus of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, with only two ICU beds open at the Braselton hospital. Thirty-nine beds were available system wide. ....
