Politics in 2020: Biggest winners and losers


In terms of politics, 2020 could easily be described as the year of Andrew Holness and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP). For leading the JLP to an epic landslide victory over Dr Peter Phillips and the People’s National Party (PNP) in the September 3 General Election, Holness firmly established himself as the most astute politician in the country. His profile had already been growing internationally in recent years.
Yet, for his handling of Jamaica’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to be lauded around the world, the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Christopher Tufton, could easily be named politician of the year. This is true, even with the Market Me controversy/scandal that threatened to tarnish his reputation and which, any discerning onlooker could see, had ruffled his feathers. Guy's Hill Post Office taken to court over breach of closure notice


The Post and Telecommunications Department (Jamaica Post) has been chided for its involvement in the reopening of the Guy s Hill Post Office in St Catherine despite the building failing to meet the basic requirements of the parish’s public health department.
The St Catherine Health Department has been forced to take action, resulting in the Guy s Hill Post Office being taken to court last month for breaches of a closure notice under the Public Health Act.
In August 2017, the rural area post office was closed by the health authorities because the building had fallen into a state of disrepair. Additionally, part of the roof had carved in, which caused leaks, and rats had infested the building. ....
