HIAWATHA, Iowa (AP) A yearslong quest to create a town center in Hiawatha is picking up steam. Between a library expansion, a new plaza under construction in front of City Hall and a couple of large, mixed-use developments in the works, the city of 7,300 is preparing for future growth, City Manager Kim Downs said.
“We’ve been the community that used to be just driven through,” Downs said. “We are not the same community. We don’t look like the same community.”
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports the new projects are the latest plans in establishing a downtown area in Hiawatha after a big setback. ....

County Home Road Improvement Project Begins in Linn County – Mix 94.7 KMCH

The project started today, April 14
th. County Home Road will be closed completely to through traffic from North Center Point Road to just east of C Avenue Extension – and will remain closed for the entire duration of the project.
The North Center Point Road intersection will remain open throughout the entire project, while the C Avenue Extension intersection will remain closed.
Construction improvements include concrete paving, the addition of right and left turn lanes and single lane roundabouts at the C Avenue Extension intersection.
The County anticipates the project will be completed this fall.
