Across Florida and the entire country, educators have noticed what they are calling a COVID-19 “learning gap” that they fear could have the same impact on some students as missing months of school.
Those most deeply impacted, the teachers say, are the same students already most at risk of falling behind, such as students from poor and minority families, and students with disabilities. Local schools and community groups are setting up summer programming in the hope students can get the help they need to catch up.
