The four-year-old trauma support service dog is task-trained to provide pressure therapy to people in crisis. Chewie works with Victim Services of Nipissing District at the North Bay Police Service, normally spending his days with those who need him the most.
But the pandemic, social distancing and lockdown rules have changed how Chewie and MacIntosh go about their work. ....

Jessica Milne says the sudden and unexpected death of her uncle has left her aunt struggling with more than she can handle.
Milne decided to step up and help in the greenhouse where her uncle, Wayne Chalmers, made a name for himself producing some of the best vegetables in the area at Spring Hill Farms in Trout Creek, according to the North Bay Farmers’ Market. ....

Wayne Chalmers, vice-chairman of the market’s board and co-owner and operator of Spring Hill Farms of Trout Creek, died on Jan. 13 at age 61.
“As one of the founding members, Wayne has been a respected vendor and board member of the farmers’ market for the past 20 years,” chairman Mitch Deschatelets was quoted in a media release Tuesday.
“Wayne was a pillar in the market and a mentor to those farmers and artisans starting out. His wisdom and calm demeanour will be missed.” ....

With the temperature hovering around -11C Saturday morning, William and Tara Dehaan were bundled up in winter coats, wearing hats and gloves as they served their customers.

The vendors with the North Bay Farmers’ Market were set up in the parking lot of North Bay Mall, unable to go inside because of the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions in place.
“We’re going to make the best of it,” William Dehaan said.
The farmers market has been operating inside the mall since the summer market closed on Thanksgiving weekend. But Saturday they were forced outside after the province extended the lockdown for another two weeks in Northern Ontario to match the lockdown in southern Ontario. ....
