The Sheriffs Office says the fight broke out this afternoon in the maximum security housing unit of the downtown san jose jail. We first told you about the melee on abc 7 news at 4 00. The unit is still in lockdown mode this evening. Inmates are being ordered to stay in their cells. Sheriff laurie smith says no guards were hurt trying to break up this fight. And she just told us that its a coincidence that the fight happened in this part of the jail where she had just put in new security cameras and had them installed yesterday. But thats where we installed the cameras. We dont have cameras in any of the other housing areas, and they only went in last night. Its interesting that it happened here.
