Billy Nungesser is heading to Alaska next week for a seafood promotion trip. The Republican lieutenant governor leaves for Juneau on Monday and will return to Louisiana on Thursday, according to his office. Among his plans, Nungesser will attend a dinner combining Louisiana and Alaska seafood to mark a formal partnership agreement between the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board and the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute. He ll also take a boat tour and attend an event hosting travel and food writers. Louisiana and Alaska are the country s top two seafood-harvesting states, producing about 6.5 million pounds of seafood annually, according to Nungesser s office. ....
Head found in Louisiana identified as that of Texas woman May 28, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail CAMERON, La. (AP) A head found along a highway near the Louisiana coast three years ago has been identified as that of a Texas woman who was last seen in 2017. Investigators used dental records to identify the dead person as Sally Ann Hines, 58, of San Antonio, news outlets reported. Police had received a tip recently about a missing person who looked like a computer-generated image of the head, said Cameron Parish Sheriff Ron Johnson. Hines was reported missing in San Antonio on Dec. 14, 2017. A crew picking up litter found the head on Louisiana 27 between Hackberry and Holly Beach on March 1, 2018. ....
USDA: February storms created disaster area in Rapides May 24, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated Rapides Parish, Louisiana, as a primary natural disaster area because of the winter storm and ice from Feb. 15-21. Producers in Rapides and the seven parishes that touch it are eligible to apply for emergency loans through the Farm Service Administration. The surrounding parishes are Allen, Avoyelles, Evangeline, Grant, LaSalle, Natchitoches and Vernon. “Many producers in this area were hit by multiple hurricanes last year only to have further losses from the winter storm in February,” Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain said in a news release Monday. “Emergency assistance is essential to help producers recover and stay in business.” ....
