republican leadership. they are going to try to box democrats in around certain narratives and keep them contained within those narratives. and there s no one better in washington at doing that than mitch mcconnell. look, it can t be harassment to find out what happened in the 2016 election so that we avoid that in the future and russian interference. it can t be harassment that you asked for tax returns to look legitimately at the president s tax returns just like every other president, every other presidential normminee. and it s not harassment to oversee what s happening at the environmental protection agency and a whole bunch of other agencies. and to do legislation because democrats can walk and chew gum at the same time. although mitch mcconnell returning infrastructure in d.c., that s what s going on. it doesn t sound like mitch mcconnell has that. let me go to somebody who is having a pretty good day and
is some kind of threat to the republic. according to the hysterical press releases that inevitably follow. no matter their qualifications, no matter their record, no matter their representation, it s the same hyperbole, the same accusations, the same old story. tonight president trump will announce his normminee to fill e current supreme court vacancy. we don t know who he will name, but we already know exactly what unfair tactics the nominee will face. it won t be new and they won t be warranted. we can expect to hear how they will destroy equal rights or demolish american health care or ruin our country in some other fiction al way. justice kennedy s resignation letter barely arrived in the
associate justice on the supreme court. it was also a moment of clarity. . because in the process of the supreme court hearings, we saw democratic senators throw every fastball they could. use every attack they could, and end up with no meaningful kr criticism of judge gorsuch s record. a decade on the court of appeals, a decade following the institution, being faithful to his oath. the position of the democrats, we just saw a party line vote in the committee can, where every democrat voted no. not based on qualifications, not based on temperament or anything in his record. a decade ago no democrat opposed his confirmation to the court of appeals. what we saw today was the position of the modern democratic party as they are opposed to donald trump appointing anyone to the supreme court. if they will filibuster neil gorsuch, they will filibuster any normminee from a republican president. that obviously is not a tenable standard for advice and consent and that s the reason if it they
the department of justice focused on gay rights and voting rights and sessions if he gets the confirmation, he s going to ship resources during the campaign. he talked about immigration reform, drug enforcement, that s going to be a different ship. they saw that it the naacp at the end of last week did a sit-in in sessions office trying to remind progressives how important this is is. and what s interesting and you ll understand this because you ve covered the supreme court, they are looking at the sessions hearing as a dry run for the supreme court hearings that will come down the line when trump has a new normminee. those hearings could be the big fight and progressives now are tackling both of them in these meetings. we re watch iing it closely because wub of the contenders a judge in alabama has close ties
so i think it was smart for the clintons to sort of back off on that a little bit. some of us haven t been that successful. speaking of trump, the republican veteran josh holmes and mitch mcconnell said this. at some point we have to deal with the fact that there are two candidates who could utterly destroit republican bench for a generation if if they became the nominee. we would be hard pressed to elect a republican dogcatcher north of the mason dixon or west of the mississippi. if you talk to republicans who are looking at these maps and races and who the front runners are, seats they need to defend in swing states or districts that voted for obama, they are nervous about the prospect just like josh said by the normminee of trump or senat cruz. they both the people who are
