A therapeutic youth home in Sheridan, Wyoming is closing its doors this spring after multiple states have dropped contracts with its parent company nationwide due to reports of violence, abuse and a death at another facility. When Normative Services Inc. Academy closes in March, nearly 50 kids from Montana will need to be transferred elsewhere.
NSI is owned by Sequel Youth and Family Services, a for profit company that runs juvenile treatment centers across the country. Typically, county and state agencies place foster kids, juvenile delinquents and children with behavioral problems in these facilities. ....

A Wyoming treatment center where California had long sent troubled youth will shut down in March, following a Chronicle and Imprint investigation into violent abuse at its campus and others operated by Sequel Youth & Family Services.
The decision to close Normative Services Inc., a program for youth with behavioral and emotional problems in Sheridan, Wyo., is “not in any way related to any issues or concerns with the care and high quality services provided,” Sequel officials said in a news release Wednesday. Instead, they said, they arrived at the decision after “an evaluation of viability” of the program. ....

SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) A youth mental health services organization based in Wyoming has announced it will stop operations in late March after analyzing the viability of its programs during the coronavirus pandemic.
Normative Services, Inc. Executive Director Clayton Carr said the academy will close its doors on March 22, The Sheridan Press reported Wednesday.
“Over the next two months, we will be working collaboratively with families, state agencies and case workers to transfer our students to appropriate programs with the therapeutic supports necessary for them to be successful,” the company said in a statement. “During that time, we will maintain all regulations and staffing ratios.” ....
