A couple of weeks ago, I attended a Chamber of Commerce function highlighting the work and future plans of the Norman Economic Development Coalition (NEDC).
BancFirst Norman president Jim Wade recently announced the hiring of Kurt Lee and Dillon Henry, as well as the promotions of Scott Hofmann, Kristi White and Angie Crandall.
A committee tasked with nominating the interim Ward 2 Norman City Councilmember has chosen the OU Carl Albert Centerâs director of National Education for Womenâs Leadership and Civic Engagement to be approved in the May 11 city council meeting.
The committee, which consisted of Britton Perry â former Ward 2 councilor David Perryâs son â Richard Stawicki and Aleisha Karjala, according to an article by the Norman Transcript, chose Lauren Schueler based on her âready answers, broad experience and determination.â Â
Originally there were ten candidates vying for the position after Ward 2 councilor Matt McGarry stepped down a month after his election to accept a job offer at an Ivy League institution. Following this instance, the committee formed to find a new councilmember. Â

January 2020 was a terrific month for arts and music.
COVID-19 was a page 8 story about an obscure and faraway virus emerging on another continent. January included travel, fine dining in restaurants, a visit with friends, making new ones and virtually non-stop live music performances in one of the worldâs great music cities.
The annual Folk Alliance International conference was held in New Orleans that month. A road trip to the event included stopping overnight in Lake Charles to visit friends who both work at McNeese State University. A few months later that small city would be devastated by Hurricane Laura. Happily both friends survived.
