The River Institute delivered a fast-paced Year in Review through one of its outreach forums on Wednesday night – the monthly Science and Nature Untapped series.
Nearly two dozen presenters passed an annual report virtual relay baton, in looking back on 2020, the show hosted by research assistant/technician Stephany Hildebrand, and with, of course, a common thread of pandemic pivoting.

Will the Great River Rapport be, well, great?
Dr. Leigh McGaughey isn’t a neutral observer, but the research scientist, the GRR project lead and co-ordinator, certainly is entitled to an opinion.

“It’s already great!” McGaughey said enthusiastically, of what’s been a long-term effort going back to 2018, a project that’s taken its time as it continues flowing smoothly toward a finished product likely late this summer, and with a soft rollout of information starting later this month.

Will the Great River Rapport be giving the Upper St. Lawrence River late this summer a grade of A, C or – gulp – E grade?
The answer is, none of the above, or anything in between.

“There won’t be a grade of the river,” said report co-ordinator Dr. Leigh McGaughey. “It’s more of a conversation about the river.”
The conversation has been going on for a while. The GRR won’t be officially released for a few more months, but some information already is available, including in the Starting the Conversation section.
