Peterson was convicted in 2004 of first-degree murder in relation to his wife and of second-degree murder of their unborn son. He was sentenced to death by lethal injection in 2005. Laci Peterson, who was 27 years old and eight months pregnant, disappeared on Christmas Eve in 2002. The remains of her and Connor were found in the San Francisco Bay in 2003, four months after she went missing. ....

The high-profile-20-year-old conviction of Scott Peterson now has a new development after his sister-in-law claims that she has discovered evidence that will exonerate Peterson for the slaying of his pregnant wife. The then 27-year-old Peterson already had his death sentence overturned by the highest court of California last summer after allegations of irregularities in the jury selection. Prosecutors are currently trying to get the penalty reinstated as they pushed for a new trial, but the uncovered evidence might change the outcome.
