A fire burned part of the Denny s restaurant on East Cypress Avenue in Redding early Friday morning, Jan. 29, 2021. The fire s cause was under investigation.
Redding firefighters extinguished a fire early Friday morning at the Denny s restaurant at 542 E. Cypress Ave.
The fire department responded at 4:41 a.m. and saw a fire burning outside the building. Flames reached the restaurant s interior but there was only a minimal spread, fire officials said.
Major damage was reported to part of the building s exterior and minor damage to the interior. The fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damage to the building and $500 in damage to contents. ....

REDDING, Calif. - Covid-19 hurting homeless count efforts Northern California.
For the 2021 Point-in-Time count, the NorCal Continuum of Care will not be able to perform the standard unsheltered count due to the pandemic.
Because of the pandemic, the CoC waived the counting of the unsheltered. This means this year s Point-in-Time homeless count will cover people staying in shelters.
“They have allowed us to not do an unsheltered count this year,” said Redding City Councilmember Kristen Schreder, who also works with the Point-in-Time committee.
“Every two years we are required to do an unsheltered count.” ....
