Library Fund, Established In 1890s, Grows To $681,922

A fund is available to the Falmouth Public Library board of trustees over and above the library’s annual operational budget. Established in the 1890s by James M. Beebe, the trustees fund was formalized by Town Meeting vote in 1902. The fund has grown from $337 in 1897 to $23,000 in 1986 to nearly $681,922 today. “Over the last 30-plus years, we’ve gotten some bigger chunks donated to the library, which have been earmarked for library enhancement,” trustee chairwoman Judith Fenwick said. This includes a $274,990 bequeathment from the William Gallagher Trust in 2011, library Director Linda E. Collins said. “These donations to the library go to, and are managed by, the library trustees,” Ms. Collins said.
