Desperate unemployed Eastern Cape mothers are looking to prostitution as their last hope of providing food for their children. Some told the Dispatch they had ended up with multiple partners because of promises that the men would look after them, while others said depression caused by their situations had resulted in them becoming aggressive towards their children.
Nomboleko Noludwe Simayile, the Ngcobo mother who allegedly bludgeoned her four children to death with a sledgehammer, has died. This was confirmed by provincial police spokesperson Brig Tembinkosu Kinana. Kinana said the 32-year-old fell ill in police custody on Sunday afternoon. “But [she] did not say what the nature of the sickness was,” he said.
