Officials believe that the four-alarm fire started at the back of 99 Maple St. Sunday around 4 p.m. We do know that it was furniture in the rear of the house that caught the rear of the house in the back porches, and from there it quickly spread to the house next door to it, said Yonkers Fire Department Deputy Chief Joseph Citrone. By the time crews got the inferno under control, more than 30 families were left homeless, and more than a dozen firefighters were injured.

Seniors lined up at the Nodine Hill Community Center to roll up their sleeves. The president of the Municipal Housing Authority says they re working to get all 2,100 senior residents vaccinated.

COVID Vaccination Sites Are Popping Up Around NYS

0:50 New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced that 35 community-based pop-up COVID-19 vaccination sites are coming online this week, and six are in the Hudson Valley. Cuomo says vaccination sites being established this week in the Hudson Valley are at churches and cultural centers Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday. The sites are, in Mount Vernon, Grace Baptist Church, Thursday and Friday; in Yonkers, at the Nodine Hill Community Center Thursday through Saturday; at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center Saturday; in Peekskill, at the Kiley Youth Center on Saturday; in Poughkeepsie, at Beulah Baptist Church on Friday; and in Spring Valley, at the MLK Center, Friday and Saturday. All are by appointment only. The sites will be re-established in three weeks to administer second doses of the vaccine.

Velma McKenzie-Orr says she battled coronavirus and has lived to tell the tale, and now on Thursday, she ll be able to rid her virus fears once and for all. She will be one of 500 seniors in Mount Vernon expected to get the Pfizer COVID-19 over the next two days at a special pop-up clinic sponsored by the Grace Baptist Church and the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center.
