that we need to get this done. we need to get this passed. the social programs and the infrastructure bill. we need to get it done and progressives, the whole democratic party and republicans need to meet in the middle and get something done. alicia: i mean, this is kind a gift to republicans right now, jose. they are just standing back watching democrats have, i believe, chad put it good-old fashion food fight. do you think democrats will be able to get it together at this point because right now progressives don t seem like they re in any immediate to move and don t feel like they have to. they will. eventually they will. politics, compromise, negotiations take time. i think that next couple of weeks, there s no hard deadline or no set date but i m very confident that progressives at the end of the day, they understand that they need something. some sort of bill is better than no bill at all. they will have to compromise with nod rate democrats and pass
understand whether or not inflation is transitory or not. now, that matters because that s not something that you sort out in a couple of weeks. that s something that will take months for us to figure out and that puts in peril this very deliberate strategy that house and senate democrats have to jam through this reconciliation bill in a matter of under a month before anyone knows what s in it trying to pair it to this infrastructure bill and make everyone in the democratic party vote for both. that would seem to put this strategy entirely in doubt. paul: well, yeah, this is fascinating because pelosi s deal with nod rate and liberal democrats has been we are going to pass both of these things in quick order. now, this would suggest that the reconciliation bill has to be put off for weeks or months as you say and if that s the case, isn t the pressure going to be on her to pass this infrastructure bill soon? of course, manchin supports that but a lot of the progressives don t. what doe
work. you need a simple way for people to get the insurance and buy it. you ll need subsidies for them. the refundable tax credits have not been big enough for most people to afford health care insurance if you just look at the numbers. so it becomes a complex puzzle and every piece needs to fit together. these are not simple things to fulfill. we spent a long time trying to put the puzzle together and the republicans once they get down to the nuts and bolts of designing a plan are going to find it a lot harder and with less freedom of movement than they say they are going to have. achieving affordability, that is the hardest one because health care costs have gone up relentlessly although the obamacare has actually kept them nod rate moderated for the last five years. dr. he manuel, you say things can be fix, it s about how it s done. we ll talk about it going forward. thank you, sir. thank you, chris.
