Letter: Artist to hold another diversity talk May 12, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail To the Editor: Last week, several parents of elementary school students requested that the Board of Education make more extensive efforts to teach kids about how to handle cases of bigotry and to make schools more inclusive. In response, superintendent Dr. Alan Addley responded, “I’m proud to say that the board’s recently adopted “Vision Mission Values and Goals,” specifically identified the importance of fostering a school culture that promotes integrity, diversity, inclusion and respect. This will be an ongoing challenge and focus for the schools.” I would like to applaud the parents’ courage and support the Board of Education. Christopher Tranberg, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, stated further that “when it comes to equity work, it’s really important that a district develops their language as a community, as to how they’re going ....

This was the inspiration for the “Darien Cooks! Community Cookbook,” a treasury of recipes to feed the soul, local families and our community. In the early months of the pandemic, The Community Fund of Darien and the Darien YMCA came together to discuss a community building project and realized that many residents were spending a great deal of time at home with family, doing a lot of cooking, and having meals together. This was the inspiration for the Darien Cooks! Community Cookbook, a treasury of recipes to feed the soul, local families, and our community. Original recipe submissions for the cookbook are now being accepted until March 1st at www.communityfunddarien.org. Darien Cooks! will be available in mid-May; pre-orders are currently being taken on the website for $50 each. All proceeds will support TCF and YMCA community programs. ....
