Foundation announces 2021 Academic All-State scholarships The Shawnee News-Star The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence has announced the recipients of its prestigious 2021 Academic All-State Awards. These 100 top public high school seniors, selected from 379 nominations statewide, hail from 77 schools in 69 Oklahoma school districts. Those selected in Pottawatomie County include Noah Drew from Bethel High School, Jared Stone from Chandler High School and Olivia Todd from Shawnee High School. The 2021 Academic All-State class is the 35th to be selected by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence. Since the award program’s inception in 1987, some 3,500 high school seniors from 330 school districts have been named Academic All-State scholars. Four high schools will celebrate their first Academic All-Stater: Davenport, Porum, Soper and Stigler high schools. ....

For the sixth consecutive year, Concord wrestling accepted the runner-up trophy, while the perennial powerhouse Timberlane Owls won its sixth straight Division I title – the program’s 20th title in the last 21 years – with a 60-9 victory in Plaistow on Saturday night. “It was tough,” Concord head coach Ham Munnell said. “(Timberlane) is a tough team. Our kids did what they could. I was happy they got there.” ....
High schools: H-D boys’ hoop gets first win on last-second, half-court 3 Published: 2/23/2021 6:14:57 PM The Hillsboro-Deering boys’ basketball team didn’t just get their first win of the season on Monday night at John Stark. The Hillcats got a half-court-3-pointer, buzzer-beating, go-bananas win. Stark (2-7) took a two-point lead with 4.8 seconds to play on a bucket from Chad Martin. H-D called a timeout and drew up a play for Zack Coombs, but the ball had to go the length of the floor and the Generals doubled Coombs … but that left another Coombs open, his older brother Owen. He was just over half court, but with time running down the elder Coombs launched a shot that went in as time ran out and gave H-D a 63-62 decision. ....
