Cape Town - Premier Alan Winde has defended the provincial government’s position with regards to B-BBEE policy in the light of the recent policy announcement by the DA that it was ditching race-based policies and dismissed concerns from the ANC as premature.
Leader of the official provincial opposition Cameron Dugmore and public accounts committee member Nomi Nkondlo (both ANC) had asked questions about the province’s procurement policies and treatment of B-BBEE issues during a briefing on the audit outcome of the department’s annual report for the 2019/20 financial year. ....

Cape Town – The City has warned businesses are on the brink of collapse after losing trading hours every night because of the lockdown curfew, and have now called on the government to change the times, saying every trading hour is vital for businesses.
Economic opportunities and asset management Mayco member James Vos said he had written to the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma to implore her to consider and lobby for the current curfew of 9pm to be lifted to 11pm.
Vos said he had been inundated with calls and correspondence from desperate businesses in hospitality, manufacturing, retail and the small, medium and micro enterprises across the business value chain, including the Cape Chamber of Commerce and the Federated Hospitality Association of SA, who, after just managing to survive the first round of lockdowns, were now facing closure due to ha ....

The Eastern Cape initiate death toll has risen to 13.
None of the initiate deaths are Covid-19 related, but two traditional surgeons have died due to the virus.

Wesgro score successes amid Covid-19 crisis

Cape Town – Despite the financial year ending in a crisis, the Wesgro Convention Bureau team secured 52 new bids for the Western Cape as a conference destination, which is expected to bring 38 291 delegates with an estimated economic impact of R1.2 billion, according to the entity’s annual report for the 2019/20 financial year.
Committee chairperson Deidré Baartman said: “We welcome the phenomenal achievements by Wesgro this year in having secured 18 investment projects to the value of R2.24 billion and for creating more than 5 000 jobs through its various initiatives.
“Wesgro is also supporting 46 tourism marketing initiatives through its convention bureau team which will have an estimated economic impact of over R935.6 million. This work by Wesgro has seen the Western Cape economy grow and also created vital working opportunities for the residents of the province.” ....
