New Jersey COVID Update: All schools expected to be open for full time in-person learning by start of 2021-2022 academic year


TRENTON, New Jersey (WABC) Governor Phil Murphy said Wednesday that New Jersey expects to have all schools open for full-time in person learning by the start of the 2021-2022 academic year.
The state has now distributed more than 3 million COVID-19 vaccines, with 1.1 million people fully vaccinated, and Murphy said the focus on vaccinating teachers will only increase safety at schools that are already showing low transmission rates.
He said there have only been 800 cases linked to in-person learning since August 1, out of 565,000 confirmed cases statewide. He also said the biggest shift back to in-person learning has been in the last week, and more than half of all schools are at least on a hybrid system. ....

NJ vaccinations begin for long term care residents and first responders


WESTAMPTON TWP., New Jersey (WPVI) Vaccinations began for residents and staff of long term care facilities in New Jersey on Monday, as well as for some local first responders.
Mildred Clements - who just turned 103 on December 24 - became the first long term care resident in New Jersey to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at Roosevelt Care Center in Old Bridge, Middlesex County.
Meanwhile, nurse Esther Moodey became the first staff member to be vaccinated in the kick-off to a statewide effort to vaccinate the vulnerable, in partnership with CVS and Walgreens.
CVS has already coordinated and scheduled visits to 277 long term care centers across the state over the next six weeks to provide roughly 80,000 vaccinations, said Gov. Phil Murphy during Monday s COVID-19 briefing in Trenton. ....
