An elderly woman is facing the heartbreaking risk of losing the home she has resided in for more than three decades after falling on hard times. Marie Riggins, 82, has resided in her home in the Carlton Square community of Inglewood, California, for 35 years and is now fighting to keep it after the community’s homeowner’s association left her with two options: pay the full $38,000 owed or move. Riggins and her late husband moved into the community and their brand-new home in 1986 she began to fall behind on the dues in 2017 after his passing from complications related to pancreatic cancer. She filed for bankruptcy following his death and continues to work, while also relying on social security checks, but doesn’t find the funds to be enough to help her come up with the lump sum. ....

Riggins says her HOA is demanding $38,000 that she allegedly owes,” KTLA reported. Despite experiencing financial hardship, Riggins said “there is no way in the world that she would owe $38,000” for her home located in the community development known as Carlton Square. ....

Marie Riggins, 82, said there s no way she would owe $38,000 in HOA fees for the home in Inglewood s Carlton Square community she bought with her late husband in 1986, KTLA reported. The GoFundMe for her, created on May 14, has raised more than $57,532 from donations as of 10:45 a.m. ET Tuesday. Riggins fell on some financial hardships due to the passing of her husband. These financial issues came to a head, when the Carlton Square HOA ultimately foreclosed on her property in 2020, according to the online campaign, which was authorized by Riggins and organized by Nissan Thomas, Esq., a law office in Los Angeles. ....
