Sindh IG forms inquiry committee to investigate killing of varsity student in 'encounter' - Pakistan

Sindh Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into the killing of a student of the Sindh University in an alleged encounter in Sukkur after it triggered outrage on social media with opposition parties in the provincial assembly demanding a judicial probe into the matter.
Police claimed that Mohammad Irfan Jatoi was a notorious dacoit wanted in several crimes and was shot dead in an exchange of fire with police in Sukkur district on Sunday.
However, his friends in the varsity and social media activists rejected the police claims and said that he was a Sindh University student who was allegedly taken away by the law enforcers from the varsity on February 10 and killed in custody nearly a month later. ....

KARACHI: Secretary General Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Sindh and former finance minister Miftah Ismail on Wednesday criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government s performance and said that incompetent rulers have also realized that the days of their government are numbered. Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, Ismail said that the PTI government had committed the blunders of simultaneously depreciating the massive exchange rate and jacking up the tariff of electricity and gas preventing exports volume to increase in the last two years and five-month period. He was accompanied by PML-N Sindh leaders Khawaja Tariq Nazeer, Ghulam Mustafa, and Nisar Shah. Ismail said that people, not opposition parties, have decided to take resignation from Prime Minister Imran Khan. He said that the PDM campaign has started yielding positive results as the prices of sugar had decreased and it was hoped that the prices of flour would also come ....

KARACHI: Secretary General Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Sindh and former finance minister Miftah Ismail on Wednesday criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government s performance and said that incompetent rulers have also realized that the days of their government are numbered.
