The counting of votes for 27 seats of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council began on Tuesday. The polling was held on Saturday with an average voter percentage of 98.11.
The BJP has swept the biennial polls to the state's Legislative Council by winning 33 out of 36 constituencies. One of three local authority seats it failed to bag was in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lok Sabha constituency, where it stood a distant third.
"After almost four decades, a ruling party will attain a majority in the Legislative Council. Anti-land-mafia task force is taking back encroached land from the mafias. We won`t raze shanties of poor on encroached land until we rehabilitate them," said Adityanath in Gorakhpur.
