50,000+ people have been killed in Syria and Turkey by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake, one of the most powerful quakes in the region for more than a century.
Citing Turkish media reports, the Turkish earthquake caused the collapse of an ancient castle in Gaziantep, which has a history of thousands of years and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin sent messages of condolences to the two presidents over the large number of casualties caused by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
