Apapa gridlock: Lagos reads riot act to truck, trailer owners, to commence enforcement

The Lagos State Government has announced its readiness to commence the impounding of heavy articulated vehicles operating outside the call-up list generated by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) if caught obstructing the free flow of traffic on the roads.
This follows the resolve of the state government to end the incessant gridlock that is experienced at the Apapa-Oshodi expressway, port access roads and the Apapa axis.
This disclosure was made by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation and Chairman of the Special Traffic Management Team, Mr Oluwatoyin Fayinka, while speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday at Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Ikeja. ....

The Lagos State Government has announced the diversion of the traffic on Adegbola Street, Ikeja from Sunday, April 11, 2021, for a period of 15 months.
The road closure is in readiness for the construction of the Ikeja Overpass for the Red Line Project of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit.
According to tweet posts from the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, on his official Twitter handle, this disclosure is contained in a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation Dr Frederic Oladeinde, on Tuesday, April 7, 2021.
Oladeinde explained that the diversion was in line with the need to preserve and protect motorists and other road users against any form of accidents during the stipulated construction duration. ....

The newly constituted Traffic Management Enforcement Team, by Lagos State Government, to resolve gridlock in Apapa, and the Nigerian Port Authority Security Team have identified seven holding bays for trucks at various locations around the metropolis for the purpose of decongesting Apapa and environs of gridlock.
The team made the discovery during their first inspection to Apapa to devise a strategy to solve the gridlock issue occasioned by loading trucks and trailers at the port, which have extended to major parts of Lagos. ....
