Iva: Valedictorian grabs attention of law enforcement, succeeds after father's death

Karlee Burdette straightened her many chords and sashes as she approached the lectern to speak at Thursday s Crescent High School graduation ceremony in Iva. The valedictorian looked to her left, to spy more than 30 Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputies monitoring her every move.“To know they’re here to support me and watch me give this ridiculous speech on stage? It means a lot,” she told WYFF News Four.The men and women in blue have stood by her side since she was 1 year old. That’s the year her father, Deputy Alex Burdette, died in the line of duty while directing traffic.“There’s nowhere else I’d want to be today,” Lt. Rusty Scogins, one of Burdette’s co-workers and closest friends, said. “She’s very humble. Her dad was a great police officer and he was very humble. He took everything so seriously. Catalyst Microbrewery in Hollygrove clears a hurdle in the approval process

The former Hollygrove Market site will be cleared before the restaurant and brewery are built.
The City Planning Commission unanimously approved the plan for the new Hollygrove neighborhood Catalyst Microbrewery and Restaurant proposed for the former site of the Hollygrove Market at 8301 Olive St.
The developers plan to construct two buildings on the lot to house a new brewery and restaurant. The site behind the Carrollton Avenue post office now consists of metal sheds, small warehouse structures, fragmented concrete pads and overgrown plants.
“We were pleased by the unanimous approval by the CPC for our project, and look forward to moving closer to starting construction,” Eric Augustin, a principal with Grove Holly LLC, told Uptown Messenger after the vote. Grove Holly is the group proposing the development. ....

Microbrewery and restaurant planned for former Hollygrove Market site

A brewery and restaurant are planned for the former Hollygrove Market site on Olive Street.
A restaurant and brewery complex is in the works for the area behind the Carrollton Avenue post office that was once home to the Hollygrove Market.
On what is now an empty lot with some abandoned industrial buildings, developers are planning the Catalyst Microbrewery and Restaurant. The redeveloped site at 8301 Olive St. will include two buildings, one for the brewery and another for the restaurant, with off-street parking, outdoor seating and an urban garden.
The urban garden is apropos for the site’s history. From 2008 to 2018, the nonprofit Hollygrove Market combined urban gardening with a market for local small-scale growers. Before Hurricane Katrina, the site held a nursery and garden center. ....
