volatile situation. tens of thousands of anti-government protesters again swarmed into the streets of cairo and other cities demanding that mubarak step down. mubarak s key government officials resigned today. he named his intelligence chief as his first ever vice president. police in the capital fired rubber bullets and teargas in clashes with protesters in at least one strategic place, the interior ministry. dozens of people have been killed since these protests erupted earlier this week, but there s actually no precise number of the number of dead. the army has taken up positions in the street at orders from mubarak but so far the military hasn t cracked down on protesters. in many areas police have abandoned their positions. eyewitnesses report that in some neighborhoods residents armed with sticks, kitchen knives, other weapons they ve been able to get their hands on are trying to protect homes and businesses from looters. despite the effort of the vigilantes loote ....
