Survey seeks to better understand management of Equine Cushing s disease in horses

Horsetalk.co.nz Survey seeks to better understand management of Equine Cushing’s disease in horses Share Cushing’s disease in horses commonly causes excessive hair growth, muscle wasting along the top line, and abnormal fat distribution. An online survey of horse owners has been launched to better understand their management of pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID), also known as Equine Cushing’s disease. Cushing’s disease is common in older horses and ponies. It is linked to a range of problems, including laminitis, weight loss and a long, curly coat, plus various other signs. The survey, organised by University of Melbourne researchers, forms part of a broader, major international project to improve the understanding and knowledge of the fundamental causes of the condition, in order to improve early diagnosis, treatment, husbandry and nutritional management.
