The new Biomedical Research Institute on the Tygerberg campus of Stellenbosch University ‘was a 10-year dream costing R1.2-billion’ to address the major health challenges of Africa.
According to Stellenbosch University, the world-class biomedical research complex, which houses over 500 biomedical researchers and students, including some of the world’s foremost scientists in the fields of bioinformatics, tuberculosis, neuroscience and urology, was constructed in 2018 and only completed this year.
This week, Stellenbosch University launched its Biomedical Research Institute in efforts to address Africa s rising disease burden, and to be a training centre for the continent.
