The men have been holed up in a high-security building since Tuesday, when they lit several fires to protest against poor conditions. The building has since been extensively damaged and the Department of Corrections said it was unlikely to be used again.
The Corrections Department says inmates continued to light fires and cause further damage last night.
One man gave himself up late yesterday afternoon, but was assaulted by the others in an attempt to prevent him leaving. ....

Official figures show the police s most active and profitable mobile speed camera van parks up on State Highway 1 through Wellsford.
A mobile speed camera parked between Davies Road and School Road, a 50km/h zone, has issued 18,294 tickets since January 2018, worth $1.135 million.
The camera location has issued more than double the number of fines than the next most prolific location over that three year period.
The summer holiday period is the most common time for motorists to be hit with a fine through Wellsford.
In December last year, 3846 fines were issued worth $173,660. ....

The Commerce Commission has given Noel Leeming an official warning for selling products that were not in stock.

The Commission investigated Noel Leeming Group after receiving more than 100 complaints from consumers.
The complaints related to consumers not receiving their purchases within the delivery time Noel Leeming stipulated, customers not being able to contact the company to discuss the delays and not receiving refunds for the delays when requested.
The Commission said, in its view, Noel Leeming likely breached the Fair Trading Act by accepting payment for 37 Amazon Kindle products in early April when it had no remaining stock to fulfil these orders. ....
