GoLocalProv | RI Has 2nd Highest Infection Rate in the World - But New Mutation May Pose Even Greater Threat

Wikiscient
Rhode Island is back in the spotlight with the second highest seven-day coronavirus infection rate in the world at 671 cases per 100,000 population, according to a report in NBC News.
Arizona is the highest at 785, and we lead California’s 658. In comparison, the Czech Republic had a seven-day infection rate of 653.
93,852 Rhode Islanders have tested positive to date, approaching 10% of the total population of the state. The actual number infected is probably much higher. The daily infection rate of 95.8 is 16% higher than the 82.9 when the ‘Pause’ was started on November 30, and stopped on December 20. With only a brief respite, for months we have been and are now the only state on the east coast in a Severe-Extreme outbreak according to covidactnow.org. ....

GoLocalProv | RI Doubles Down on a Failed Strategy

Governor Gina Raimondo
An old saying (often attributed to Albert Einstein) is that a definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. It seems that Governor Raimondo is repeating something that has been proven to fail by not only cancelling the ‘Pause’ too soon but easing pandemic containment measures before it is safe to do so.
On the day the Pause started, Rhode Island’s rate of new infections was 82.9/100,000/day. Just a few days later, by December 3rd it had soared to 113.3, earning the state the horrendous achievement of literally having the highest infection rate not only in the country but the entire world. This past Thursday when the Governor announced the end of the Pause, the infection rate had decreased to 108.5, the second highest in the country and the world, and 31% higher than the day the Pause started (yesterday it further decreased to 94.3, still 14% higher than at the start of the Pause).  ....

Much like the new coronavirus restrictions in California that took effect on December 7, Germany is taking strong action to reduce viral spread and spare hospitals from being overwhelmed.
