A nine-year-old boy has been killed after being struck by lightning on a football field.
Police were called to the scene in Blackpool, Lancashire, just after 5pm on Tuesday night to reports a child had been injured.
Emergency services attended and the boy was taken to hospital but died a short time later.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: Although enquiries are still ongoing, at this time we believe the boy had been struck by lightning. ....

LONDON A 9-year-old boy has died in northern England after being hit by lightning.
Emergency services responded to reports of a seriously injured child at a soccer field in Blackpool on Tuesday afternoon.
The boy, who has not been named by authorities, was taken to a hospital but died in the evening.
Lancashire Police said enquiries were ongoing but officers believe he was struck by lightning. ....

Tributes to boy killed by lightning strike in Blackpool

Tributes are being paid to a 9-year-old boy who has died after being struck by lightning on a football field.
Police were called just after 5pm on Tuesday after receiving reports that a child had been injured on a football field off School Road in Blackpool.
Emergency services attended and the boy was taken to hospital but tragically died a short time later.
He has been named locally as Jordan Banks.
Police said, although inquiries are still ongoing, it is believed the boy was struck by lightning.
Named as Jordan by his football team at The Clifton Rangers Junior Football Club, they described him as a shining light and an inspiration to everyone that he met. ....
