LaQuan Nairn leaps to Bahamian national long jump record

Shawn Price February 7, 2021 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas long jumper LaQuan Nairn set a national record of 26 feet, 9.25 inches (8.16 meters) in the long jump with a runner-up performance in the American Track League 3 meet held Sunday in the Randal Tyson Track Center. Nairn bettered the Bahamas record of 26-7 (8.10) set by Leevan Sands in Lexington, Kentucky, while winning the SEC Indoor title in 2004. Heading into this meet, Nairn ranked second on the all-time Bahamas list with a 26-3.75 (8.02) from his silver medal performance in the SEC Indoor last season. “Not competing in almost a year is tough, but I’ve been putting in a lot of work,” noted Nairn, who currently ranks fourth on the 2021 world list. “I’m more disciplined and a better listener. I started to value my coaches and my trainers, and everybody at this University more and more each day.

Morris vaults to world lead, Crouser creates history with shot series

Shawn Price January 31, 2021 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sandi Morris opened her indoor campaign with a world-leading vault of 15 feet, 9.25 inches (4.81) during the second American Track League meet held at Randal Tyson Track Center. Ryan Crouser delivered another victory in the shot put as his best mark among an impressive series equaled the previous world record of 74-4.25 (22.66) he broke last Sunday. Bryce Hoppel recorded the second fastest time ever by an American indoors in the 800m with a 1:44.37 win. An additional highlight included a national record and world-leading 22.40 in the 200m for Shanae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas as she equaled the Tyson facility record set in 2008 by Bianca Knight during the NCAA Indoor Championships. Shamier Little, who trains in Arkansas, set a career best of 23.40 as runner-up.

Ryan Crouser breaks indoor shot put World Record at Tyson Center

Shawn Price January 24, 2021 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A world record performance in the shot put on Sunday signaled the return of professional track and field on the University of Arkansas campus as Ryan Crouser’s first attempt inside the Randal Tyson Track Center measured 74 feet, 10.5 inches (22.82) to better a 32-year-old record. “It’s been a goal, but it’s almost more like a stepping stone to the outdoor world record,” noted Crouser, who in his second year as a volunteer assistant with the Razorbacks. “I’m kind of always looking forward. I’m really happy to throw an indoor PR and be so close to my outdoor PR in the very first meet of this season.

Professional track returns to UA with American Track League

High Jump Olympic shot put gold medalist and Olympic Games record holder Ryan Crouser continues to get closer to the world record with his indoor best less than three inches away. Crouser, in this second year as an Arkansas volunteer assistant, has an indoor career best of 74-1 ¾ (22.60) which ranks second on the all-time world indoor list. The world indoor shot put record of 74-4 ¼ (22.66) was set in 1989 by Randy Barnes in Los Angeles. Omar McLeod, an Arkansas alum and 2016 Olympic gold medalist in the 110m hurdles, returns to Fayetteville to race in the 60 meters. Joining him in the same 60m prelim heat is Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse, who has collected three Olympic medals and four World Championship medals between the 100m, 200m and 4×100 relay.
