Driver caught breaching covid rules told police he couldn t sleep

Nicholas Heavingham, 30, was stopped behind the wheel near Marlborough in the early hours of May 9 last year, when lockdown rules prevented people from being out of the house without a reasonable excuse. Prosecutor Keith Ballinger told Swindon Magistrates’ Court that Heavingham said to the officers he’d been out for a drive with his housemate because they couldn’t sleep. Police issued the Newbury man with a £60 fine for breaching the regulations, Mr Ballinger said.
