CRC held an in-person information session at the Pinnacle Campus on April 17 to present details about the proposed plant and to answer community questions. During the meeting, residents held up signs reading No toxic batch plant and Don t poison Oak Hill in protest of the plan, while representatives with CRC compared Pinnacle to the three other site options.
Two options are located within the project’s right of way near the Scenic Brook community and The Y intersection itself. The third, which CRC said was recently removed from consideration, was a vacant property outside of the Ledgestone community.

The Sustainable Food Center is temporarily closing its Sunset Valley farmers market at the Toney Burger Activity Center as Austin Public Health and Austin ISD convert the venue into a new vaccination site.
According to the Sustainable Food Center, vendors and shoppers are invited to participate at the nonprofit’s downtown farmers market at Republic Square Park, 422 Guadalupe St., Austin, while the Sunset Valley location is not available. The Republic Square event is held each Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
At a March 5 press conference, Cassandra DeLeon, the assistant director of Austin Public Health’s Disease Prevention Health Promotion Division, said the Toney Burger Activity Center could open as a new vaccination center in the coming weeks. The center is located at 3200 Jones Road, Sunset Valley.
City staff did, however, face challenges, especially as the winter weather prevented some from traveling to the city from their homes early on. Carrillo said that emergency response protocol usually requires essential staff to be present at City Hall and that the city should better outline specific requirements of staff in employee documents to help clarify needs in the future.
The winter storm also highlighted a need to purchase emergency power generators to run city facilities. While a generator maintained power to the city’s police building, Carrillo said City Hall and the city’s public works buildings were offline at times during the week due to Austin Energy power outages. Generators would allow city hall to be set up as a staging area or a shelter during future power outages if needed.
Traffic on FM 685 was lined up near Pflugerville Parkway. (Amy Bryant/Community Impact Newspaper) Pflugerville Mayor Victor Gonzales issued a local disaster declaration Feb. 16 in response to the unprecedented winter weather that has caused blackouts in the city and throughout the state.
The declaration stated that “unprecedented snowfall combined with loss of power to city critical infrastructure has left many residents without power or running water.” Issuing this declaration allows Gonzales and the city to have the ability to request disaster recovery assistance from the state and federal government.
Gov. Greg Abbott issued a statewide declaration Feb. 12, with President Joe Biden following with an emergency declaration for Texas on Feb. 14. Travis County also issues its own declaration because of the severity of the weather that is affecting residents.
