Seplat trains 143 teachers, inspectors in education delivery The Punch Published 24 March 2021 Seplat has through its Seplat Teachers Empowerment Programme boosted the capacity of 143 teachers comprising of 100 secondary school teachers and 43 Chief Inspectors of Education from Edo and Delta states. The STEP initiative, according to a statement issued by the oil firm and titled ‘Seplat drives quality education in Nigeria,’ is an educational programme created by the Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc and its partners, the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, to improve the country’s standard of education, particularly in host states. The statement explained that the company had made significant impacts with critical initiatives focused on providing quality education for states where it operates and the country. ....

Share Scholars and education experts on Sunday marked the 66th anniversary of the Universal Basic Free Education of ChiefObafemi Awolowo, by charting the path to go in sustaining the ideals of the policy. Speaking at the anniversary Webinar, organised by Obafemi Awolowo Foundation, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on children’s education, was dissected by stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, while state government in the South West also spoke to the challenges of providing education during the pandemic and the lessons learnt from the novel policies that were enacted. At the interactive session, the Executive Director of the Foundation, Ambassador Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu said for the nation to achieve the much-needed growth, it was imperative to support the underprivileged children in the society, adding that the soaring number of vulnerable children in the country should be a source of concern for every Nigerian. ....

The nation’s educational system is still bogged down by poor funding, industrial crises, brain-drain, poor remuneration, decayed infrastructure, and dearth of competent teachers. Unfortunately, these challenges run through all the three tiers of education – primary, secondary and tertiary. Punch Newspapers Sections Sodiq Oyeleke No fewer than 240 lecturers, including professors, at the University of Lagos, enrolled on the Integrated Personnel Payment Information System against the directive by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The PUNCH gathered that the affected lecturers have been sanctioned by the UNILAG chapter of ASUU. The sanction is coming about one week after ASUU suspended its nine-month strike over the non-payment of salaries of ASUU members who failed to enrol into IPPIS and other unfulfilled agreements between ASUU and successive administrations. ASUU had opposed IPPIS used in settling workers’ salaries by FG and developed the University Transparency and Accountability Solution which is currently undergoing test-run by the National Information Technology Development Agency. ....
