Celebrating A Century of NCAA Track & Field Championships Lawson Completed “Jesse Owens Triple” In 2016 Jarrion Lawson flawlessly executed a simple plan to historic results in 2016. Five years ago, Lawson became just the second athlete in the history of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships to complete the 100-200-long jump triple in the same year. The other was Jesse Owens, who did so twice in 1935 and 1936 (Owens also added a victory in the 220-yard hurdles in each of those years, for good measure). “I’m just thankful to God to be able to do the same things that Jesse Owens did,” Lawson said after the meet. “It’s just a great privilege and honor. It’s just amazing to come out and win three events. To be mentioned in the same sentence as Owens, I just thank God for it all.” ....
Celebrating A Century of NCAA Track & Field Championships De Grasse Sprinted To Otherworldly Double Andre De Grasse was a supernova in a pair of star-studded sprint fields at the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. De Grasse completed the 100-200 double in Eugene, Oregon, with blistering, wind-aided marks that left Hayward Field buzzing and turned the collegiate track & field world – and track & field world, in general – on its head six years ago. It all started in the 100, where De Grasse lined up against Trayvon Bromell, who clocked the second-fastest time in collegiate history in the semifinals the day before. Bromell went 9.90, which barely missed the collegiate record set by Ngoni Makusha of Florida State in 2011. ....

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Florida State jumper Isaac Grimes put on a world class performance with a world leading long jump of 8.33m on day one of the Tyson Invitational inside Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Grimes enormous jump puts him at No. 1 in the FSU record books passing up Seminole legend and 2008 Bowerman Trophy winner Ngoni Makusha (8.21m). His mark becomes the fifth best in collegiate indoor history and is beyond the Olympic standard to qualify for the Olympic games.
Meanwhile, Trey Cunningham exploded in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.55. He remains at the top of the NCAA at No. 1 with this season best performance.
The women’s distance medley relay cruised to a school record time of 10:57.24. Clocking in at No. 3 in the country with a foursome of Alyson Churchill (3:21.17), Edidiong Odiong (53.15), Yasmine Abbes (2:08.51), and Maudie Skyring (4:32.42).
CLEMSON, S.C. – The Florida State track and field team wasted no time on day one of the Bob Pollock Invitational. With five wins and many personal record performances the FSU team has made it clear that they have no desire to step back from their indoor success.
“Great opening day for us. I was really pleased with our focus and effort, especially for so early in the year,” said Florida State head coach Bob Braman.
Jumps Isaac Grimes and Jeremiah Davis once again dominated the men’s long jump. Grimes made an enormous jump of 8.18m to take the win with a distance that was not just a huge PR and national leader but also No. 2 in FSU history behind Seminole legend Ngoni Makusha (8.21m). Davis took second by jumping a massive distance of 7.99m to beat his previous 7.86m PR. Not to be outdone Alonie Sutton and Ruta Lasmane also took first and second in the women’s long jump by both jumping a distance of 6.14m.
