May 6th, 2021 On Wednesday NASCAR s three participating manufacturers showed off the final looks for their new Next Gen models that will be the basis of its Cup Series platforms starting in the 2022 season. The Camry, Mustang and Camaro models all have individual characteristics, but across all of them the series and automakers said they were pursuing features that decrease the dependence on aerodynamics and increase the emphasis on car setup. That covers the new coupe-like silhouette, composite body materials, symmetrical design, larger wheels and a height that s two inches higher off the ground than their predecessors. They also should be cheaper for teams to operate because they ll need fewer cars per driver, since these are built so that one car is usable on different types of tracks. ....
The Next Gen Camaro has a much stronger link to the production Camaro ZL1 in terms of styling integration, improved proportions and relevant technologies, said Eric Warren, Chevrolet director of Nascar Programs. From an engineering standpoint, this is a seismic shift. It s a completely new car that brings with it a lot of opportunity from a technical standpoint. The Camaro ZL1 has been in Cup competition since 2018. It was replaced in 2020 with the Camaro ZL1 1LE. Over the past 60 or so years the company has campaigned 14 different nameplates including Chevelle, Laguna, Monte Carlo, Lumina and others. In total the manufacturer has 798 victories, 39 Manufacturer Championships and 32 Driver Championships to lead all manufacturers. ....

In one fell swoop, Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota have unveiled their Next Gen race cars for the NASCAR Cup Series. Looking more like their road-going counterparts, the race cars have a symmetric carbon fiber composite body with a shorter rear overhang. The models are also equipped with a ventilated hood, a side exiting exhaust and a rear diffuser for improved aerodynamics. The changes don’t stop there as the cars adopt a revised greenhouse and a wider rear track. There are also new 18-inch forged aluminum wheels, which look far better than the previous 15-inchers. While all three cars have a lot in common, they have unique front and rear clips which bolt on for easier repair and serviceability. Each closely resembles its road-going counterpart and this helps to make the race cars look more authentic. ....
