PIERRE, S.D. (AP) The South Dakota Board of Regents says the state s six public universities and two special schools are planning for a return to more normal operations this fall.
“Our goal is to return campus life this fall to a setting that looks much like it was before the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Brian L. Maher, executive director for the board. “With vaccines available now in higher education and K-12 settings, we can all look forward to more normal operations ahead.”
Maher said South Dakota’s success in vaccine distribution, as well as local efforts to manage and keep positive infection rates low, will guide the universities’ and schools’ planning for the 2021 fall semester, the Yankton Press & Dakotan reported. ....

FARGO, N.D. (AP) Deputies in North Dakota’s most populous county are being outfitted with body-worn cameras, Cass County Sheriff Jahner announced Tuesday.
Jahner said his office is working with Arizona-based technology and weapons company Axon for equipment and staff training.
The system is ready to be implemented this week, Jahner said in a statement.
Jahner said the technology will increase transparency and help hold deputies accountable, as well as assist in prosecuting criminal cases in the county that includes the Fargo-West Fargo metropolitan area.
“I am very excited for the opportunities and safeguards this camera systems will provide our community and deputies,” Jahner said. ....

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) Kyle Ostrand found himself looking up townhouses in Williston, trying to talk his workers into becoming roommates after the oil price collapsed last year.
Some of them without families in town agreed to live together, and although they don’t necessarily work long hours anymore to bring in big paychecks like when oil was booming at the start of 2020, they’re still employed by 3 Forks Services. SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) A South Dakota ethanol plant says it has surpassed 1 billion gallons of production.
Dakota Ethanol LLC began production at the facility near Wentworth in September 2001. It started with a capacity of 40 million gallons per year and now produces 90 million gallons annually. It has more than 1,000 members.
The company says the ethanol is produced from 30 million bushels of locally grown corn each year. The plant also provides a variety of distillers grains products for livestock feed, as well as corn oil, the Madison Daily Leader reported.
“The work we do here at Dakota Ethanol uplifts our local ag economy and supports area farmers who helped build this industry from the ground up,” said Scott Mundt, Dakota Ethanol CEO. ....
