CSPAN3 The Life Of Movie Studio Executive William Fox February 11, 2018

A novel he published in 2012. Vanda krefft was herself a leon levy fellow in 20092010. And i have just learned that she spent only 10 years on this book. [laughter] maybe a little bit more. But i am very sympathetic. My first biography on john mccloy took me 10 years, although my wife claims it was really 12 years. A biography takes a long time, it is a massive endeavor. Most biographers get biography disease and they cannot stop researching. [laughter] and thus the years roll by. The result is often rich and deeply detailed account of not only a life, but of a time. To my mind, the best part of history. Vandas article on the Entertainment Industry and social issues have been published in articles and in newspapers, including redbook and the los angeles times. Her project explores the life and times of the forgotten movie mogul, or maybe not so forgotten, whose contributions to the art, technology and business of the film ....

CSPAN3 History Of The Slave Trade January 29, 2018

The enslaved people learned to adapt to their new world. One of the things i have learned growing up in newport, and before becoming involved in history and interpretation, my grandmother would remind me of as a child, slavery is how we got here. It doesnt tell you the story of the people. My interest is telling the story of the people. Clearly, people of african ancestry arrived in the americas the 70s or south america, we arrive under the most perilous and difficult circumstances of human slavery. On the other hand, we persevered. The fact that so many of African Heritage exist in newport or , or barbados, york or anywhere in the western hemisphere is a testament to our perseverance. 1639 over the course of the next 100 years, newport and the colony of rhode island would grow to become mentally one of the most active ports in british north america, but it also became the most active slave port. Between 7005 and 1805, newport we ....

Other leaders and think about leaders and also to look at Anglo American relations, the aristocracy. Here is a photo of her when she was married to lord randolph and churchill was born in 1874. She was born in 1854. There you see Young Winston with his loving mother. Look at how he is dressed. What an embarrassing portrait for a statesman, right . [laughter] well, churchill wrote in his autobiography that he was a troubled boy in the sense that he caused trouble for others. He said, i was called a troublesome boy. There he is, about 14. You see that scowl. Wow. Does he look like that . [laughter] look at those two. [laughter] 50 years difference, but boy they look alike, dont they . You can see the resemblance between the two, the young teenager and the statesman that stood up to hitler. Ok, that pugnacious, troublesome boy, who grew up to be a statesman who gave trouble to pe ....

CSPAN3 Discussion On Flags Of The American Revolution June 22, 2024

About flag day and then we realized that in fact there were three flags being stored here and one in the collection of the museum of the American Revolution, two that are the property of an anonymous, very generous owner and lender, who has consented to have them on display for this afternoon. So this is an extraordinary opportunity. Im not sure there is anywhere else on the planet why you can stand in the room and be in the presence of three banners of liberty from the American Revolution. So congratulations to all of you for not going to the beach this weekend or not mowing the grass in the hot weather and choosing to come and sit in the dark with me for about an hour. I would like to start actually with an exercise to get you to think about the role that flags play and the images you have in your minds eye about the

CSPAN3 Puritans And Religious Freedom August 30, 2017

Okay . So what we are going to deal with today are larger problems that are not necessarily individual belaif yohaviors but who were actually practicing and acting upon them and not just misbehaifr yors. That whole experiment, what happens when somebody starts so question that. What happens when they are entirely countered of that. We talked about how important it was to them to make sure they were doing it right according to their understanding of their christian faith. They had to do it this particular way. If they didnt do it this particular it is one of the most terrible things i could imagine. So questioning that is questioning, you know, different religious ideas or the basis for that and you cant do that in their society. Okay. Well talk about that, and particularly well look at it from the standpoint of religious freedom, he like yus okay. So what we find is that the idea of freedom of expression, freedom of religion was a contested idea almost as soon as people started to get ....
