Earlier start to NZ apple harvest, strong demand in export markets The New Zealand apple harvest is already under way, around a week earlier than last season, volumes will increase towards the end of the month into March.  Recent hot weather weather doesn’t appear to have materially affected the crop according to Alan Pollard CEO of NZ Apples and Pears. The estimate of gross production this season is 558,672 metric tonnes, comprising of: export - 374,751mT, domestic sales - 69,649mT and 114,272mT for the processing industry. These figures are 5% down on last year with export down 5%, domestic up 2% up and processing down by 2%.
