Newman and Otlman Guitar Duo Come to Stetson University The centerpiece of the recital is Leo Brouwer s new guitar duet, El Libro de los Seres Imaginarios.by BWW News Desk The Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo, praised by legendary Cuban composer Leo Brouwer as one of the great duos in the world, will perform a virtual recital of works by Brouwer, Manuel De Falla, Enrique Granados and Isaac Albeniz, on Friday, March 19 at 7:30 P.M. EST as a part of the Stetson University School of Music s Great Guitarists Extravaganza. After years of anticipation and planning, Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo performed the world premiere of Leo Brouwer s new guitar duet El libro de los seres imaginarios for the opening of the nineteenth New York Guitar Seminar on June 26, 2019, at Americas Society. For our online series and their curatorial week, the duo recorded a special version of one of the piece s movements, The Gorgon, at home in New Jersey. Sihasin Award-winning musicians Jeneda and Clayson Benally, who established the group Sihasin, are from the Diné in the Navajo Nation of Northern Arizona. They create an explosive organic sound out of just bass and drums, inspiring their listeners with a hard-punk backbone softened by folk and Navajo rhythm. They sent us a traditional Diné song “Shí Nasháá,” followed by Gentler Than Night, with music and lyrics by Brianna Lea Pruett (1983–2015) and Sihasin. ....
