N Y Senate Passes Foreclosure Abuse Prevention Bill

As expected, the New York State Senate on Tuesday easily passed a controversial bill aimed at foreclosure reform. The vote was 52 to 10 in favor of the measure. The New York Foreclosure Abuse Prevention Act passed the assembly in March and is expected to be signed into law by Gov. Kathy Hochul.

New York Bill Could Chill Lending

The New York State Legislature is expected to pass a bill that mortgage lenders and servicers believe will make it almost impossible for them to enact successful foreclosure proceedings. The New York Foreclosure Abuse Prevention Act passed the state assembly last week; the state senate is expected to pass it this week. Indications are that Gov. Kathy Hochul will sign the bill into law.
