UMass students suspended over photo that shows them without masks fighting back against punishment

A trio of UMass Amherst students have been booted from campus for the rest of the semester after school officials discovered photos of them at an outdoor event without face masks.
Their families, who intend to hire lawyers to battle the punishment, said forcing the freshman to forfeit their schooling was unfair.
“They took a picture off-campus on a Saturday and got thrown out of school,” one parent told WCVB.
The group of honor students, one of them a high school valedictorian, were kicked out of on-campus housing immediately after administrators found an Instagram image of the girls, taken at a party in March. They were allowed to study remotely as they appealed their case, but were cut off earlier this month from virtual learning and denied the ability to take their finals. ....

ALBANY A group of city landlords and property owners filed a federal lawsuit Thursday seeking to put the kibosh on New York’s recently renewed eviction moratorium.
The suit, filed in Brooklyn federal court, comes days after Gov. Cuomo signed off on a measure extending a state ban on evictions through the end of August. Under the law, tenants can’t be kicked out if they claim they’re facing financial trouble due to the COVID crisis. ....

Hundreds of fish have washed up dead on the shore of a lake in Lebanon, and authorities are still trying to figure out why.
Lebanese workers hauled away around 40 tons of dead fish from Tuesday to Thursday, but dozens more remained on the shores of Lake Qaraoun, Agence France-Presse reported. Crews used wheelbarrows and construction equipment to pick up all fish. ....

The CEO of a telemedicine company based in Tennessee has been fired after he was caught on video harassing a teenage boy who wore a dress to his senior prom.
“In response to those asking for additional clarity on Sam Johnson’s termination as CEO, we can confirm that Mr. Johnson is no longer employed by VisuWell in any capacity,” VisuWell said on Twitter. “He no longer has a position on the Board of Directors and any informal advisory role.
