NUPU is warning the public to expect big hikes to utility bills after the cold February spell.
NEW ULM The New Ulm Public Utilities Commission (NUPUC) will hold a special work session Tuesday to provide information on the recent natural gas price increase due to the polar vortex.
The work session is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the City Hall Chambers before the regular PUC meeting. The work session is intended as an informational meeting to explain the recent jump in natural gas prices.
Earlier this month, New Ulm Public Utilities (NUPU) warned residents their gas bills for February could be the highest in years. Natural gas prices are increasing across the country. When temperatures drop, customers turn up the heat in their homes, increasing the demand for gas.

The New Ulm Public Utilities Office warned residents Tuesday that natural gas prices have risen sharply recently. The office listed a number of ways to reduce natural gas demand including turning down thermostats when residents are not at home.

The New Ulm Public Utilities (NUPU) warned residents their gas bills for February could be the highest in years. The cold spell is the reason for the increase in gas prices.
“We’re seeing some of the highest gas prices across the nation in some time,” New Ulm Public Utilities Director Kris Manderfeld said. “It is about supply and demand.”

⢠Responded to an harassment report at 3:24 p.m. Jan. 26 from a 30-year-old New Ulm woman who said she got a call from a 36-year-old New Ulm man from the Brown County Jail who was her ex-boyfriend which she said was a domestic abuse no contact order (DANCO) violation. A report was sent to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office.
⢠Received a vandalism report at 3:40 p.m. Jan. 26 regarding glass window damage at the New Ulm Public Utilities building. Damage appeared to have come from a projectile overnight. A damage estimate was not available. A report was done for documentation.
