60 Tulsans Naturalized In State’s Largest Drive-Thru Ceremony
Dozens of Tulsans are celebrating Thursday afternoon after becoming U.S. citizens. Tulsa said the ceremony is the largest drive-thru naturalization event in the state.
“I am considered an American citizen. I love it. Thank you so much. I’m so proud of it, said Filonena Waller. Waller is one of 60 people who took the oath Thursday.
“It means so much opportunity. Being able to see that packet and see that I can vote to make a difference. For me it’s always been a dream to join the military and now I can go and do that with nothing holding me back, said Zuri Seymour. ....

Flourish Tulsa Helping Immigrants Find Jobs In The United States
Immigrants come to the United States thinking their professional credentials won t transfer to their new home but now the city of Tulsa has a new program that will allow immigrants to start where they left off.
Flourish Tulsa is a new program that is part of the New Tulsans Initiative which aims to provide immigrants with opportunities to better integrate with the city. The new program focuses on helping U.S. immigrants and refugees find jobs in the fields they studied in their native country.
The City of Tulsa will also be partnering with Tulsa Community college YWCA Tulsa and Workforce Tulsa to help immigrants with a career pathway and helping them learn English. According to the New American Economy in 2018, there were 55,000 immigrants in Tulsa county alone. ....

The systems in the U.S. may be very different from a similar system in an immigrant’s country of origin. Starting to figure out how to navigate the systems such as health, education and finance may be a challenge, on top of possibly having a language or other barrier.
“People who grew up here, it may be different, because maybe your parents knew about it. As an immigrant, you don’t have that,” she says. ....
