Good mix of new and old faces at 3D outdoor archery tournament

“The guys set up a really good tournament. There were kids as young as 11 and people near retirement age, so we had a good range of people come out,” said Goertzen, who was the Compound Grand Prix winner. “Some of the people there had never shot a bow before this, and they were seeing some good results.”
Gil Davis won the Traditional Grand Prix, and club president Tim Giesbrecht won the Spot Shoot.
“Tim has been doing a great job teaching the basics of archery, aiming, and form. When the students get that out of the way, it’s a lot easier for them to find a level of proficiency that makes it fun, rather than frustrating.” ....

Club director Graham Goertzen explains why he loves archery and why he loves to compete.
“The joy of hitting something at a longer distance is a lot of fun for me. Fundamentally, it’s the calming aspect of when you’re shooting; you’re only thinking about one thing, your shot execution.”
The format will be three rounds, with 20 targets per round. Scoring will be IBO style with two rounds on Saturday, and the final round will be on Sunday. ....
